When the pumpkin spice rolls in and the heat waves roll out, it signals that it’s just about time for the start of a new school year. To celebrate and show our support for students, check out our interns and associates repping the organizations that have helped them get to where they are today.

Whether the times are calling for teased tresses or pretty ponytails, one thing tends to be consistent—kids feel nervous at back-to-school time. Team #BCBSRI knows this and took a trip down memory lane while compiling our favorite tips for the season. Many of our favorite tips come to us from The Greatest 8, a mental wellness texting service for parents of children ages 0 to 8. We’re proud to help make their services available in Spanish and other languages. Get more guidance here: https://lnkd.in/efJx79fw

If you know Team #BCBSRI, you know we’re all about cultivating leadership and development in our community. Our associates were excited to participate in LADO RI Latino Dollars for Scholars’ Career Exploration Day. Our Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Farah Shafi, MD, MBA, served as a panelist, helping students learn more about career paths in healthcare. Representatives from our Latin@Link employee resource group networked with student attendees. #BCBSRICommunity

Last week, our Rising Talent @Blue employee resource group hosted a group of high school students from SquashBusters, a local nonprofit that fosters sports-based youth development. Associate volunteers presented on a variety of topics that both our organizations are passionate about, like volunteerism, mental health, and career opportunities. And after a summer of listening from panels of company leaders, some of our summer interns had the microphone turned back towards them. They had the chance to speak with the students about ways to prepare for post-secondary educational and professional opportunities.

To help us better understand and address the challenges facing our neighbors, BCBSRI and the Brown University School of Public Health conduct an annual statewide survey called the RI Life Index. Now, we’ve jointly launched Rhode Island Voices, a project of the RI Life Index that will take an even deeper dive into learning about the lived experiences of Rhode Islanders and what they have to say about the health and well-being of their communities.Through this new project, up to 1,000 Rhode Islanders will participate in web-based questionnaires throughout the year, sharing their feedback on topics such as food access, affordable housing, and job opportunities. And two organizations will also receive additional grants of up to $2,000 on our luckiest day of the year—September 13. Vote now to decide which two nonprofit partners will be named Best of Blue across Rhode Island! This annual poll calls upon community members to join together and vote for organizations of their choice. View official contest rules and participate: https://ow.ly/XVsb50SWGzZ
