March 15, 2024 is the Rutgers priority filing deadline for the 2024-25 FAFSA, so you should act quickly if you have not yet applied. Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA).

Understanding Rutgers Admissions

First-year students can apply to any of our three campuses through the Rutgers Application or Common App. For more information on how to apply, go here.

After submitting your application, you’ll be asked to provide additional credentials and documents so we can verify items like GPA, transfer credits, and residency. These required credentials are necessary for our review of your application.

If you submit your application through the Common Application, you can check your eligibility for a fee waiver in the profile section of your Common App. If you meet the criteria for a Common App fee waiver, your application fee will be waived. If you submit your application through the Rutgers Application, fee waiver eligibility can be found here.

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, maintains test-optional and test-blind policies through 2025. Students who are currently enrolled in high school or graduated from high school less than two years ago, and do not have 12 or more subsequent college credits completed with grades by the application due date and who wish to submit a standardized test score with their application may still do so.

Whether you submit your application through the Common App or the Rutgers ApplicationPortal, you can check your application status here. You must log in using your Rutgers CommunityID to check your application status. If you applied through the Common App, you will receive an email from Rutgers (within 24 hours) with instructions about how to set up a CommunityID. Please do not attempt to log in or create an account until you receive that email.
